Munich, police operation, Schwabing

Police shot and seriously injured a man in Munich’s Schwabing district after he allegedly handled a pistol-like object in the street, BR reported. The approximately 20-year-old man was taken to hospital, police said.

Police received an emergency call at about 5:15 p.m. Officers approached the man, and at least one shot was fired from a police weapon. Police said there had been no criminal act beforehand.

The area around the junction of Clemensstraße and Belgradstraße has been cordoned off over a wide area, and trams have been halted. A police spokesperson said there were significant traffic disruptions but no danger to the public.

Criminal investigators, forensic specialists and officers from Bavaria’s State Criminal Police Office arrived at the scene. The state office investigates whenever a police officer uses a firearm. Witnesses were questioned at a dedicated collection point.
