Postalm secures future of ski operations

The ski area on the Postalm between Abtenau and Strobl will continue operating, ORF reported on Tuesday. Snow shortages and the resulting planning uncertainty had threatened to end the business.

The Abtenau and Strobl toll-road companies and farmers on the Postalm will now buy the operation, said managing director Linus Pilar. Pilar will remain in his position.

Ownership will be held by three key stakeholders: Postalmstraße Strobl, also known as the Postalm Aufschließungsgesellschaft; Postalmstraße Abtenau, the Postalm Errichtungsgesellschaft; and the Großlienbachalpe agricultural community, a major landowner.

The takeover is intended to ensure that the Postalm remains an important leisure and recreation destination for local residents and visitors. The new owners are working to address snowmaking and hope to implement it in the coming years.

Alpine skiing will focus on the existing tow lifts and conveyor belt, with the offer aimed primarily at children, young people and families.

The purchase price has not been disclosed. Plans also include a reservoir pond, terrain adjustments for winter operations and improvements to tourism infrastructure.

Particular attention will be given to cross-country skiing. Planned measures include optimising the trail routes, preparing the trails during summer and gradually expanding the offer for beginners and young athletes.
