A shortage of spaces at Kühnsdorf railway station is pushing commuters to park on roads, cycle paths and grass verges, ORF reports. Police are warning drivers who park illegally, while buses are often struggling to get through.

The station currently has 160 parking spaces, and an ORF visit found them all full by 8 a.m. Dozens of cars were parked outside the designated spaces, some in no-stopping zones. Nearby property owners have also raised complaints.

Seventy more spaces are being built, more than the 48 originally planned. ÖBB spokeswoman Rosanna Zernatto Peschel said the total would rise to 230 by December, which should help. She also urged commuters to use feeder transport and carpooling, saying there was no room for further expansion.

Eberndorf Mayor Wolfgang Stefitz, whose municipality is among three involved in managing parking, said the planned total would still be insufficient. He wants the municipalities to put pressure on the state and ÖBB, and said a privately operated car park could be an option.
