Wolfgang Streicher, head of the Institute of Structural Engineering and Materials Sciences and its Energy-Efficient Building division at the University of Innsbruck, will receive the 14,000-euro Tyrol State Prize for Science, ORF reported.
The jury recognised his outstanding work in energy efficiency and sustainable building technology, the Tyrol state government said in a statement.
“The energy transition is one of the central challenges for the future of our state. Professor Streicher played a key role in developing Tyrol’s energy scenarios and, through his research, is making a significant contribution to ensuring that we make the right decisions and successfully implement the energy transition in Tyrol,” Governor Anton Mattle said.
Science Minister Cornelia Hagele said Streicher had an impressive academic record and that his research was making a decisive contribution to the University of Innsbruck’s international reputation in energy-efficient construction.
The official award ceremony will take place at the Landhaus on October 12. The Tyrol State Prize for Science has been awarded annually since 1984 to recognise outstanding scientific achievements.
A 4,000-euro junior research award will go to Simon Beck, a university assistant in the Energy-Efficient Building division at the University of Innsbruck. Streicher nominated him for the award.
