A 21-year-old man was injured with a knife by a stranger at Keplerplatz in Vienna’s Favoriten district on Sunday evening, ORF reported. The suspect allegedly approached him and pulled out the knife without any apparent reason.

The victim suffered a small stab wound to the shoulder and cuts to his arm, a police spokesperson told the APA news agency on Monday. The suspect fled towards Reumannplatz, and an immediate search did not find him.

The suspect was described as about 20 years old and wearing a black-and-white cap, beige trousers and a black shirt. Vienna’s emergency medical service treated the injured man before taking him to hospital.

Keplerplatz is covered by a weapons ban zone, where police may check people without specific suspicion and seize weapons or dangerous objects, including knives.
