Police seize cars after drivers hit 116 km/h in 50 zone

Police in Wiener Neustadt provisionally seized two cars after their drivers were caught travelling at 116 and 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, ORF reported. A separate police operation also stopped a driver suspected of being impaired by drugs.

The two drivers, aged 22 and 46, were stopped shortly after 11.30 p.m. on Monday night after racing north on the first and second lanes of the B17. The younger man is from Wiener Neustadt, while the older driver is from the Bruck an der Leitha district.

Police temporarily confiscated both men’s driving licences and will report them to the authorities. A 28-year-old driver was also stopped in Trautmannsdorf in the Bruck an der Leitha district on Saturday after being recorded at 93 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. He was barred from continuing his journey and will also be reported to the district administrative authority.

Drug-impaired driver stopped in Lilienfeld district

Saturday checks along the B20 in Annaberg in the Lilienfeld district also resulted in driving bans. Police stopped a 28-year-old motorcyclist after recording him at 92 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A 30-year-old car driver travelling at 77 km/h in a built-up area was found to be impaired by narcotics during an examination by an official doctor. Both men from Vienna will be reported to the district authority, police said on Monday.
