Graz, police, traffic safety

Graz police stopped two drivers for speeding and arrested a third man who fled during a traffic stop, ORF reported.

At about 11 p.m. on Thursday, officers used a laser speed gun on Triester Straße and recorded a car travelling at 109 km/h. The 31-year-old driver said he had been speeding for the fun of it and had his licence taken away.

More than two hours later, police stopped a 20-year-old motorcyclist travelling at 119 km/h on the same road. Officers took his licence and provisionally seized the motorcycle.

Another driver ignored police lights and orders to stop, fleeing at more than 100 km/h along Triester Straße, Lauzilgasse, Herrgottwiesgasse and Großmarktstraße. He stopped in Lagergasse after causing a crash that resulted in property damage, then ran away on foot. Police quickly caught and arrested the 28-year-old, who will be reported to the Graz public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of endangering physical safety.
