A 29-year-old forestry worker was seriously injured by a falling tree in Scheifling, in the Murau district, on Friday, ORF Steiermark reported.

The man was working alone on timber felling in his own forest on Freiberg, near Scheifling, at an altitude of about 1,400 metres. As he felled a spruce, it became caught in neighbouring trees before falling with a twisting motion. The tree struck him and threw him aside, seriously injuring his left lower leg and jaw area.

He was able to call emergency services himself. A first responder provided initial treatment, followed by an emergency doctor and the Murau ambulance service. After being taken from the accident scene, he was flown by rescue helicopter to a hospital in Klagenfurt.
