Austria’s federal states have agreed on a package calling for clear rules against digital abuse, ORF reports. Manuela Khom, leader of the ÖVP in Styria, said stronger legal protection was needed against sexualised images and covert recordings.
Speaking at a conference of state women’s affairs officers in Burgenland on Friday, Khom warned that ordinary photos could be turned into sexual images with a few clicks. She also raised concerns about people being filmed without their knowledge using glasses equipped with cameras.
Khom said such abuse could harm anyone’s dignity and called for a federal legal framework defining what is permitted. She said the states could campaign for such legislation but could not introduce it themselves.
