Swiss companies plan to raise wages by an average of 1% in 2027, leaving a real increase of just 0.2% after expected inflation. SRF reported the findings of a UBS survey of nearly 400 companies, published on Tuesday.
Although confidence has improved across all sectors, the outlook for the labour market remains subdued. Low inflation expectations and cautious staffing plans point to modest wage growth, UBS economist Meret Mügeli said.
The largest increases are planned in energy, supply and waste disposal, at 1.5%. Chemical, pharmaceutical and metal companies each plan increases of 1.2%. Retailers expect a 0.8% rise, while the watches and jewellery sector plans 0.7%. Most other sectors anticipate increases of 1%.
UBS expects the Swiss economy to grow by 1.5% in 2027.
