Halloween events drew strong crowds in Burgenland during the autumn holidays, benefiting restaurants and some hotels, ORF reported. Organisers said they were pleased with attendance across the region.

The first “Burg Geflüster” event at Schlaining Castle exceeded expectations, attracting 17,500 visitors against an initial forecast of 10,000, said Didi Tunkel, managing director of Burgenland Tourism. He said accommodation providers and restaurants across the surrounding region had benefited.

The Family Park amusement park in St Margarethen also reported strong attendance at its end-of-season “Fiesta de los Muertos” event. Operators said 90,000 people visited over 13 days, with a good turnout each day. Many guests booked through the park’s hotel partners.

A technical fault briefly caused concern last Friday when visitors had to be evacuated from a ride using a lifting platform. The Stellarium ride was back in operation the following day, operators said.

More than 8,000 people attended this year’s Halloween Grusel Days in Podersdorf. Although that was slightly fewer than the previous year, Podersdorf Tourism said it was satisfied with the turnout.
