Bavaria turns cooler as fog replaces late-autumn sunshine

After a final spell of sunshine and temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius in some places, Bavaria is heading into cooler, often foggy weather, BR reports. A winter cold snap is not expected in the first days of November.

On Tuesday, temperatures reached 18 to 20 degrees in many parts of the state, including Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kempten, where they hit 20.4 degrees. Wielenbach, south of Lake Ammersee, recorded 21.5 degrees.

A cold front crossing Bavaria on Wednesday is bringing more cloud, periods of rain and temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees. From Thursday, high pressure is expected to bring mostly dry conditions through the weekend, but fog and low cloud could linger all day in river valleys and low-lying areas.

While the Danube Valley and the Alpine foothills may remain grey and cool, higher parts of the low mountain ranges and the Alps have better chances of sunshine. Daytime temperatures in low-lying areas are expected to be around 8 to 14 degrees. Overnight temperatures could approach freezing in some places, with ground frost possible.

No significant winter onset is currently in sight. There may be snow at higher elevations in the Alps during passing precipitation, but there are no reliable signs of snow reaching lower areas. Sunny autumn days are still possible in early November, particularly in the mountains, depending on whether fog and low cloud clear.
