A2 crash seriously injures driver and closes motorway

Tuesday 27th October 2026 on 20:01 in Austria

A2, Styria, traffic accident

A 42-year-old driver was seriously injured in a three-car crash on the A2 near Grambach in the Graz-Umgebung district on Tuesday, ORF reported. She was flown by rescue helicopter to UKH Graz. A second driver was slightly injured.

The crash happened shortly before 3pm as the motorway maintenance service was clearing up after daytime roadworks. A truck fitted with an impact attenuator was parked on the third lane for protection. The 42-year-old driver stopped and tried to move into the second lane. A 20-year-old driver approaching behind failed to see her car and the truck.

The impact pushed the 42-year-old’s car into the truck’s attenuator, sending both vehicles onto the second lane, where they collided with a car driven by a 35-year-old woman from the Südoststeiermark district.

The 20-year-old was taken to LKH Graz with minor injuries. The 35-year-old was uninjured and signed a waiver at the scene.

The A2 was fully closed towards Vienna until about 3.50pm. All lanes reopened at about 4.10pm.
