Mountain cable cars in Vorarlberg had a successful summer season, with passenger numbers at Lake Lünersee and Golm up by about 10 percent, ORF reported.

The Lünersee cable car carried 140,000 people during the season, while Golm welcomed 240,000 guests. Judith Grass of Golm Silvretta Lünersee Tourism said the figures represented growth of roughly 10 percent when measured against the three-year average.

Grass said hiking had become a modern lifestyle and that more young people were discovering outdoor recreation. The trend has also brought pressure on nature and crowded car parks, making “qualitative growth” a key goal, she said. Measures include managing visitor flows, while guests are urged to stay on marked hiking trails.

Demand remained strong in the mountains at the end of October, before the winter season begins.
