South Tyrolean Raimund Plancker will become race director for the men’s Alpine Ski World Cup on November 1, ORF reported. He succeeds Markus Waldner, who announced his resignation in early October. Plancker’s first assignment will be the slalom in Levi on November 15.

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) said Monday that the rest of the leadership structure would remain unchanged. Hannes Trinkl of Upper Austria will continue to oversee speed races, while Slovenia’s Janez Hladnik remains responsible for technical events.

Waldner is expected to stay with the FIS in another role. Before joining the federation, Plancker spent about 10 years coaching various elite teams for the Italian Ski Federation. Since 2022, he has served as deputy race director for the speed disciplines.

“We are very pleased to have found an excellent solution for the team,” FIS Alpine director Janne Leskinen said. He said Plancker was among the most knowledgeable and respected figures in Alpine skiing and that the appointment would ensure continuity.
