A 15-year-old moped rider was seriously injured after a car hit and dragged him several metres in Grabern late Saturday, ORF reported. The 43-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol, police said.

The driver, from the Hollabrunn district, was travelling on the B303 towards Schöngrabern at about 10 p.m. when his car struck the moped ahead of him. The teenager and his vehicle were dragged along the road before he came to rest in a ditch.

The teenager was taken by ambulance to Horn Regional Hospital. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital. His driving licence was provisionally revoked.

In a separate crash late Saturday in Spannberg, in the Gänserndorf district, a 23-year-old man from Vienna lost control of his car for an unknown reason and hit a wall and the entrance gate of a house.

The driver suffered injuries of undetermined severity, while his 17-year-old passenger was seriously hurt. Both were taken to Mistelbach Regional Hospital. A man riding in the back seat was uninjured.
