A 62-year-old man was injured and trapped beneath his car after it rolled backwards over an embankment in Kötschach-Mauthen, in Hermagor district, on Sunday, ORF reported.

The man was travelling on an access road towards Jaukenalm on Sunday morning when he got out to open a barrier. The car rolled backwards for an unknown reason. He tried to stop it but was dragged several metres before the vehicle went over the embankment and hit a group of trees, trapping his ankle beneath it.

Neighbours used tractors to secure the car before firefighters freed the man. After receiving emergency medical treatment, he was taken to Lienz District Hospital with injuries of unspecified severity.

Fire crews from St. Daniel, Dellach, Grafendorf-Gundersheim and Kötschach took part in recovering the vehicle. The amount of damage to the car was not yet known.
