An 84-year-old pedestrian and a 21-year-old cyclist were critically injured in separate crashes in Vienna’s Döbling district, ORF reported Sunday, citing police.

On Saturday afternoon, a 42-year-old driver ran over the woman while reversing at Kreilplatz. The driver had missed the entrance to an underground garage and was backing up as the pedestrian tried to cross the road. The woman fell and suffered serious injuries. Witnesses gave first aid, and Vienna’s professional rescue service took her to hospital in critical condition.

The 21-year-old cyclist was also taken to hospital in critical condition after colliding with another cyclist in Döbling. Police said a 29-year-old was riding towards the city centre on the cycle path along the Donaupromenade, with two friends cycling ahead of and behind him. The woman was riding in the opposite direction, behind her brother.

The collision happened as the cyclists approached an S-bend, police said. Both fell. The 29-year-old suffered minor injuries.
