Woman seriously injured in sharp-object attack at Munich station
A 49-year-old woman was seriously injured in an attack with a sharp object at Munich-Moosach railway station on Saturday morning, BR reported. Police arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of the attack.
Police said the woman was attacked in the upper body at about 7:20 a.m. Witnesses and first responders came to her aid and spoke with the man until officers arrived and arrested him. He is a German national from Munich who was already known to police because of apparent mental health issues.
Witnesses told police the man had loudly insulted other passers-by before the attack. Investigators believe the woman and the suspect did not know each other. She was taken to a Munich hospital with serious injuries; police did not provide an update on her condition.
Police secured a possible weapon at the scene. Munich homicide detectives are leading the investigation and forensic examination. The operation prompted temporary roadblocks around the station.
