A major fire broke out at the Kehlsteinhaus mountain inn near Berchtesgaden, with firefighters working to control the blaze, BR reported. Police said they did not expect anyone to have been injured, and initial information indicated that nobody was inside the building.
The first emergency crews arrived at 9:52 p.m. and found a major fire, according to the South Upper Bavaria Police Headquarters. The cause has not yet been established.
The building, at an altitude of 1,834 metres, has operated as a mountain inn since 1952. Completed in 1938, it was part of a restricted residential and government complex used by Nazi leaders. An exhibition at the Kehlsteinhaus covers the building’s history.
