Vienna’s public transport operator Wiener Linien will raise the price of its annual pass to 483.10 euros from 467 euros in 2027, a 3.45 percent increase, the company confirmed on Friday, ORF reported.
From 2027, fares will be adjusted annually in line with inflation. Wiener Linien said the measure was intended to prevent large price increases. The adjustment is based on the rise in the consumer price index from July 2025 to June 2026.
There will also no longer be a discount for buying a digital annual pass. It currently costs six euros less than the pass in bank card format. The annual pass rose by almost 30 percent in January; before that, its price had been unchanged since 2012.
Single tickets will cost 10 cents more. From 2027, paper tickets will cost 3.30 euros and digital tickets 3.20 euros. Twenty-four-hour tickets will rise by almost 40 cents. The Mobilpass ticket for people on low incomes will increase by about four euros to 27.20 euros.
Opposition parties criticised the planned increases. The FPÖ called the rise “a slap in the face” for public transport passengers. Klemens Resch, the party’s spokesperson on municipal utilities, said SPÖ and NEOS were making public transport increasingly expensive and burdening people who rely on it every day.
Vienna ÖVP leader Markus Figl said the city was shifting its budget problems onto the public instead of addressing its own structures and spending. The Greens said the city government had its priorities wrong and called for a public transport fare cap. Party leaders Judith Pühringer and Peter Kraus said the annual pass had already risen by more than 100 euros last year and that the latest increase would hurt both the climate and residents’ wallets.
