Fuel prices in Austria have remained broadly stable at a high level, with Tirol still recording the country’s highest prices for diesel and petrol, ORF reported.
On Thursday, the national average was €2.154 per litre for diesel and €1.794 for petrol, according to E-Control. In Tirol, diesel cost €2.199 per litre and petrol €1.808.
The high prices have prompted criticism from Tirol’s state politicians. Governor Anton Mattle of the ÖVP called on fellow party member and Economy Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer to take legal action against what he called the “Tirol fuel surcharge”. He also called for an official investigation under the Price Act.
In mid-September, the state set up a price investigation commission and asked the federal government to order a special review by E-Control.
