A wolf later found shot was responsible for killing six goats in Arzl im Pitztal, a locality in Tirol, ORF reported. The animals were killed in September near homes.

The case drew attention because a shot wolf was found hours after the goats were killed, despite there being no order to shoot it at the time.

There was initially uncertainty over whether a golden jackal had killed the goats. DNA tests detected traces from a jackal, a fox and a wolf. Further analysis has now confirmed that the wolf was responsible for the attacks, according to the state of Tirol.

The Imst district authority is still investigating whether the wolf was lawfully killed without a shooting order.
