Car crash, Carinthia, Tauern motorway

A 48-year-old driver was injured in a crash in a roadworks zone on the Tauern motorway near Spittal an der Drau on Thursday, ORF reported. Her car struck a lorry and then hit a parked vehicle.

The woman from Tyrol was driving through a section narrowed to one lane shortly after 1.40pm when a car ahead moved from the right lane to the left. She made a sudden steering manoeuvre to remain on the open lane and collided with a lorry driven by a 22-year-old Slovenian man.

The impact sent her car back into the roadworks zone, where it hit the central barrier and a parked car. She sustained injuries of unspecified severity, received initial treatment at the scene and was taken to Spittal an der Drau hospital.

Highway police, several volunteer fire brigades and ASFINAG attended. The motorway was closed while the crash was investigated and reopened at 2.25pm.
