Carinthia’s government will invite 100 young people from across the state to develop proposals on issues affecting them at a youth dialogue on 24 November, ORF reports. A discussion with government members will consider which ideas can be put into practice.
The talks will draw on a Chamber of Labour study, which found that 35 per cent of Carinthians aged 14 to 25 are dissatisfied with their financial situation. Many are burdened by high living and housing costs. Two in five young people also expressed criticism of how democracy works.
Governor Daniel Fellner of the Social Democratic Party said the government needed to address young people’s questions, including critical ones. Participants will work with experts on proposals concerning leisure activities, job prospects and mobility. State Councillor Peter Reichmann, also of the Social Democratic Party, called for honest and critical responses and said the government would draw concrete actions from the discussions.
Measures arising from the dialogue could receive support through an action plan. The financial framework is still being developed because the proposals could involve several government departments.
People aged 14 to 25 can register online until 10 November.
