Swiss retailer Interdiscount will send a customer a laptop charger after admitting its online shop failed to say the device was sold without one, SRF reported.
The customer had ordered a notebook as a gift for her mother’s 65th birthday. When it arrived without a power adapter, she complained that the online listing had not disclosed this. Interdiscount initially rejected her request for a free charger.
After the customer contacted SRF’s consumer programme Espresso, Interdiscount acknowledged that its customer service should have admitted the information was missing and said it would send her a charger.
EU rules, which Switzerland has adopted, require new laptops introduced to the EU market since April 2026 to be available both with and without a charger. Online shops must clearly state whether a charger is included, with the information displayed near the sale price. The rules aim to reduce electronic waste.
Interdiscount said it had added charger information to the laptop listing and listings for other new laptops. However, the details were visible only after scrolling down the page. The company told SRF it was reviewing its website notices and would adjust how they are displayed.
