Burgenland residents are expected to spend around €4 million on Halloween this year, the Chamber of Commerce estimates, ORF reported.
A survey by KMU Forschung Austria found that residents plan to spend about €50 each on Halloween shopping. Around 93 percent intend to buy their Halloween items from physical shops, while 29 percent are considering online purchases.
Manfred Moyses, deputy head of the Chamber of Commerce’s retail division, said every boost mattered for physical retailers. He urged shoppers to support local businesses, particularly during challenging times.
Sweets are on the shopping list for 86 percent of respondents. Gruesome decorations interest 61 percent, ornamental pumpkins for crafts 54 percent, costumes 44 percent, and makeup, jewellery and accessories 29 percent.
People aged 15 to 29 are the most enthusiastic about Halloween, the survey found. Interest declines with age.
