Electric cars accounted for a record 36 percent of newly registered passenger cars in Vorarlberg in September, while diesel registrations continued to decline, according to ORF.

The electric share rose from 21 percent in January and 27 percent in August. Diesel vehicles made up about 18 percent of registrations in September, while petrol cars accounted for around 24 percent, Statistics Austria figures showed.

Rudi Lins, a spokesperson for Vorarlberg’s car dealers, told ORF that rising fuel prices and the narrowing price gap between electric cars and diesel or petrol vehicles were contributing to the shift. He added that manufacturers had adapted to the trend, and no longer offer every model with a diesel engine.
