Actress Erni Mangold’s urn was buried on Saturday in the Kittenberger Erlebnisgärten, gardens in Schiltern, Lower Austria, at a resting place she had chosen herself, ORF reported.
Family, friends and colleagues gathered in the gardens’ arena on Saturday morning to pay their respects. The urn was then placed in the “Resting Place in the Garden”.
Mangold died on September 5, aged 99. A farewell ceremony was held at Vienna’s Central Cemetery in late September.
The garden in Schiltern was a special place for Mangold and was created in collaboration with Reinhard Kittenberger, her friend since the 1980s. At her request, red pines were planted there, and a carved walnut tree trunk bearing her portrait stands in her memory.
Kittenberger also designed Mangold’s garden in St. Leonhard am Hornerwald, in the Krems district. He said it meant a great deal to him that she had chosen the garden’s resting place. Mangold wanted the farewell to be life-affirming, and guests were asked to wear colourful clothing.
