Vienna’s Wurstelprater culture will be added to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage, ORF reported Saturday. Further details are due at a news conference on Monday.

Silvia Lang, president of the Vienna Prater Association, said she was “incredibly proud” of the recognition. She said family businesses at the Wurstelprater had kept its traditions, culture and distinctive atmosphere alive for 260 years, passing their experience from one generation to the next.

The association applied to the Austrian UNESCO Commission to have this knowledge recognised, Lang said.

Austria’s list of intangible cultural heritage currently has more than 180 entries. Tourism State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner and Vienna City Councillor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler are among those expected to attend Monday’s news conference.
