A 58-year-old cyclist was injured after a car hit him and drove off in eastern Styria on Wednesday evening, ORF reported, citing the provincial police directorate. The driver is believed not to have seen the cyclist and may have struck him head-on.
The cyclist was riding an e-bike on the B319 towards Ilz at about 7.30 p.m. when the crash happened near Hainfeld. He had been travelling from Großwilfersdorf, in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district.
The impact threw him to the side of the road. A local resident heard the crash, went to help and gave first aid before calling emergency services. The Red Cross took the injured man to Feldbach Hospital.
Police are seeking witnesses and information about the driver. Vehicle parts found at the scene suggest the car may have been a grey Audi. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ilz police on 059133-6222.
