The Salzburg Festival is preparing to move its workshops while work proceeds on the Festival District 2030, ORF reports. The main temporary site, in a former Puma headquarters on Münchner Bundesstraße, is due to open in early 2027.

The festival signed the lease in December 2025. Renovations to the building are expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The roughly 6,400-square-metre space will house the decorative workshops and the Technical Directorate. Planned upgrades include a lift, specialist ventilation, changes to lighting areas and adjustments to building services.

The festival will also rent a building on Peilsteinerstraße for its costume and makeup workshops from August 2027 to December 2033. About 90 employees will work there across 2,600 square metres, with facilities including tailoring, shoemaking, hatmaking, dyeing, laundry and costume painting workshops, as well as offices and staff rooms.

Use of the temporary locations is planned until the end of 2033. Around 80 employees will work at the Münchner Bundesstraße site. The workshops support the summer festival, as well as events at Easter and Whitsun and the Mozart Week.
