Goalkeeper Cican Stankovic has made a strong return with Austrian Bundesliga club GAK after 26 months out, and experts say his performances could also benefit Austria’s national team, ORF reports.
Nearly 34, Stankovic made saves throughout Saturday’s match against FC Red Bull Salzburg. He previously played for Salzburg and SV Grödig, and won six league titles and five cup titles with Salzburg. He was named Austrian Goalkeeper of the Year twice and has earned four international caps.
Stankovic joined Greek club AEK Athens in 2021 in a move intended to launch an international career. He made his final appearance for the club in 2024. After a spell on the bench and in the stands, and the end of his contract, he returned to action with GAK.
