Police step up patrols after six more Nordbahnviertel burglaries

Police will increase patrols in Vienna’s Nordbahnviertel, a neighbourhood on the former Nordbahnhof site, after six more burglaries were reported overnight into Sunday, ORF reported.

The latest break-ins again targeted businesses, including a hairdresser and a fitness studio. The perpetrators followed the same pattern, smashing windows and taking valuables such as cash tills or portable items. Scissors and hair dye were stolen from one hairdresser’s shop.

More than a dozen burglaries have now been reported in the neighbourhood, most of them in recent days. Police believe the perpetrators may be teenagers, based in part on security camera footage, and may be acting in loosely organised groups. It is not yet clear whether the same people were responsible for every break-in.

Business owners are concerned. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating.
