Cyclist drinks herbal bitters during alcohol checks in Wels
A 52-year-old cyclist refused several alcohol tests and drank from a bottle of herbal bitters during two police stops in Wels on Friday evening, ORF reported.
Officers were carrying out an alcohol check on a car driver on Salzburger Strasse at about 8:30 p.m. when one of them spotted the cyclist approaching in a zigzag pattern. Police stopped him, but he refused a voluntary preliminary breath test. When asked to take a breathalyser test, he turned away and took several drinks from the bottle.
Police told him not to continue riding. He initially pushed his bicycle away, but got back on and rode on a few metres later. Officers stopped him a second time. He again drank from the bottle in front of police, lay on the ground and stopped a breathalyser test after beginning it. He then walked away, shouting.
Police secured the bicycle and filed a report.
