A historic railway hall at the Neues Landgut development in Vienna’s Favoriten district is being converted into offices, ORF reports. The roughly 165-year-old building’s brick facade will be preserved, while more than 3,300 square metres of office space are created inside.

The ÖBB railway company says the renovation is due to be completed by the end of March 2028. The hall, built around 1860 as a workshop for making locomotives and wagons, is now being stripped out and fully refurbished. The ÖBB is already seeking tenants for the future offices.

The company is aiming for Gold certification from the Austrian Society for Sustainable Real Estate. A preliminary certificate was presented on October 5 at the Expo Real property fair in Munich.

The hall is the second historic building at the Neues Landgut urban development to retain its existing facade. The neighbouring Gösserhalle, a former brewery warehouse, is also being converted, with offices planned upstairs and food and drink businesses on the ground floor.

The Neues Landgut is being developed on a former railway site near Vienna Central Station. Plans include about 1,500 homes, education facilities and green and open spaces. The education campus and Walter Kuhn Park are already complete. A further 121 homes for ÖBB employees are due to be built by 2028.
