Linz is assembling and testing its mobile flood defences in Linz-Urfahr this week to check the system’s condition, ORF reports. The inspection is part of routine maintenance, despite currently unremarkable water levels on the Danube.
Work in Alturfahr began on Monday at 9 a.m., and the city expects all protective structures to be in place by Wednesday. Depending on the weather and any repairs needed, assembly and dismantling could continue until Friday.
The work may affect parking and cycle paths in Alturfahr. Traffic disruptions are also possible from 9 a.m. on the assembly days, and the city has asked residents for their understanding.
The last full inspection was three years ago, when only parts of the barrier were erected. A section was also put up as a precaution in June 2024 after heavy rainfall. This week’s test covers the entire system to ensure it is ready for use in an emergency.
