Teenager fled police at up to 160 km/h in Wels

An 18-year-old probationary driver reached speeds of up to 160 km/h in a 60 km/h zone while fleeing police in Wels, ORF reported.

Police said a traffic patrol noticed him speeding through an intersection overnight on Saturday. He switched off his headlights and tried to escape instead of stopping. Officers briefly lost sight of the unlit car, but found the driver after a search in a dead-end street.

The teenager admitted the flight was a “stupid thing to do”. Police provisionally took his licence and reported him for several offences.
