Austria will test its sirens and AT-Alert mobile warning system on Saturday, ORF reports. The test is not a cause for concern.
From noon to 12.45 p.m., sirens will sound the warning, alarm and all-clear signals after the regular siren test. About 8,300 fire service sirens will be checked, including 325 in Burgenland. The test is also intended to familiarise the public with the signals.
Authorities will send test messages through AT-Alert between noon and 1 p.m. The system supplements Austria’s nationwide warning network and automatically sends alerts to mobile phones connected to Austrian mobile networks.
In an emergency, AT-Alert can warn of dangers such as severe weather, floods or forest fires. Alerts may apply to individual regions or the whole country. The issuing authorities are the nine provincial warning centres and the Interior Ministry.
