A 21-year-old man was found seriously injured on the Dachstein glacier after a search, ORF reported. His partner reported him missing on Thursday after losing contact with him the previous day.
The man, from the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district, had set out on foot for the glacier on Wednesday. Search teams began looking for him early Thursday. Photos he had most recently sent helped mountain rescue teams and alpine police narrow the search area. They also found his vehicle in Obertraun, in the Gmunden district.
Rescuers found him near the eastern edge of the Großer Roter Graben, a ravine. Police believe he fell about 20 metres and struck rocks. After mountain rescuers gave him initial treatment, an emergency medical helicopter winched him out and flew him to Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck.
