An 18-year-old e-scooter rider struck and lightly injured a police officer in Rosental an der Kainach in western Styria on Thursday, ORF reported. The rider was travelling too fast and his scooter had defective brakes.
The teenager was riding at high speed on a pedestrian and cycle path. He ignored a signal to stop and continued towards the officer, and the two collided and fell.
The rider said he had tried to brake with his shoe because the scooter’s brakes were faulty. An inspection found the scooter could reach 74 km/h. The young man from Voitsberg will be reported to the authorities.
