Passers-by rescue four from burning car in Wohlen

Four people were injured, some seriously, in a crash in Wohlen, Aargau, and passers-by pulled them from the burning car, SRF reports.

The car failed to negotiate a right-hand bend and hit a tree head-on, Aargau cantonal police told Keystone-SDA. By the time emergency services arrived, the car was fully ablaze and the four occupants had been rescued. Some of the rescuers suffered burns.

The occupants were a 17-year-old girl and three males aged 21, 18 and 17. All are Italian citizens who live in Switzerland, police said. Two were flown to hospital by rescue helicopters.

Police were alerted by an automatic crash notification from a mobile phone, which indicated that its owner had been involved in a serious accident.
