Kottingbrunn to build 6.4-megawatt data centre

A new data centre for businesses, public institutions and research organisations is planned for Kottingbrunn in the Baden district, ORF reported. Construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.

The Greencore Data Center will cover 4,200 square metres in the Kottingbrunn business park. Its first section is due to open in October 2027, with another planned for 2029. The full build-out is scheduled from 2030 and is expected to provide up to 6.4 megawatts of IT capacity.

The operator plans to use surplus electricity from a photovoltaic plant at the nearby Wien-LOAV airfield. The plant, owned by Flughafen Wien AG, has a total capacity of 9.3 megawatts, with some of its output intended for the data centre.

Dry cooling systems, which do not use water-based cooling, are planned for normal operation. The project will also be prepared to use heat from the servers for local and district heating in the future.
