Overhead line damage shuts Munich’s central S-Bahn route

Munich’s central S-Bahn route has been closed in both directions between Pasing and Ostbahnhof because of overhead line damage, BR reported. The disruption began shortly before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the first day of school after Bavaria’s summer holidays.

The route links eastern and western Munich and is one of the region’s most important public transport connections, especially during the morning commute.

Deutsche Bahn said it could not estimate how the overhead line was damaged or how long repairs would take. Technicians were at the scene. The S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6 and S8 services are operating on altered routes. Only the S7 and S20 are unaffected because they do not use the central route.

In central Munich, passengers are advised to use the underground, buses or trams where possible. Deutsche Bahn tickets will be accepted on Munich Transport and Tariff Association services for the duration of the disruption.

Passengers travelling to the airport can take the U5 to Ostbahnhof and change there to the S8. The S8 is being diverted between Pasing and Ostbahnhof via the long-distance rail network, and does not stop at Leuchtenbergring. The S1 service from Freising and the airport is currently running only between Moosach and the airport. The U3 can be used as an alternative to Moosach.
