Lower Austria, S33, traffic accident

A 20-year-old driver was injured after his car left the S5, crossed a meadow and landed on the S33 expressway at the Jettsdorf interchange in the Tulln district on Friday evening, ORF reported.

The driver was travelling from Krems towards Tulln at about 11 p.m. when he left the road for an as-yet unknown reason near the S33 exit. The car travelled about 70 metres across a meadow, was thrown over an embankment and fell onto the S33.

It hit the first lane, slid across the road and struck the central concrete barrier head-on. The front of the vehicle was completely destroyed, and debris was scattered across the carriageway, with some wreckage reaching the opposite side.

First responders attended to the driver and called emergency services. He had left the wreck by the time emergency crews arrived and was taken to hospital after receiving initial treatment from paramedics.

The S33 towards St. Pölten was completely closed while firefighters secured the crash site and recovered the vehicle. The road reopened after about 90 minutes.
