An eight-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling from a fairground ride at the Bleiburg Wiesenmarkt in Carinthia on Sunday, ORF reported. He was taken to Klagenfurt Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The boy was riding with his 42-year-old father, both from the Völkermarkt district, at about 3 p.m. The child slipped under the properly fastened safety bar during the ride and fell into an access lane for visitors. His father, who was sitting beside him, was unable to pull him back up.

After receiving initial treatment from an emergency doctor, the boy was flown to the hospital by the C11 rescue helicopter.

An inspection, including witness statements, found no technical fault. After consultation with the public prosecutor’s office, the ride was allowed to reopen shortly after 4 p.m. Further inquiries into the circumstances of the accident are continuing.
