Morgan Freeman joins aviation legends at Wolfgangsee gala

Hollywood actor and pilot Morgan Freeman joined aviation pioneers, pilots and prominent guests at the Living Legends of Aviation gala at Wolfgangsee, ORF reported. Historical aircraft flew over the lake as the event brought together international figures from aviation.
Some of the best pilots demonstrated their skills with spectacular manoeuvres. The gala honours people who have shaped aviation history through their ability, courage and passion, as well as those whose projects have opened new paths in aviation.
Morgan Freeman celebrates his passion for flying
Freeman, 89, was one of the most prominent guests. The Oscar-winning actor has been an enthusiastic pilot for many years and said flying was more than a hobby.
“Flying is as if you had wings yourself,” Freeman said. He was visiting Wolfgangsee for the second time and praised Upper Austria. “This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful experiences I have had in my life,” he said.
At Wolfgangsee, his career as an actor met his other major passion, aviation.
Historical aircraft take to the sky
The Flying Bulls also provided spectacular moments. Their historical aircraft made aviation history visible in the sky above Wolfgangsee during a display called Flying Emotions, held as part of Living Legends of Aviation Europe at the Scalaria venue in St Wolfgang.
For the pilots, keeping old aircraft in the air is not the only goal. They also want to preserve a part of aviation history for future generations.
Opera singer presents new songs
The Living Legends event combined aviation with music and Hollywood. Opera singer Erwin Schrott presented two new crossover songs he had written himself, Ron Y Humo and Silencio De Nuevo, for the first time before an audience at Wolfgangsee.
“I have never jumped from an aircraft, but that is definitely still on my wish list,” the 53-year-old said. Composer and arranger Martin Gellner produced both songs. He has also worked with Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer.
The gala brought together aviation history, music and international glamour against the natural backdrop of Wolfgangsee. “The world comes together at Wolfgangsee and we are allowed to prepare the stage for it,” said Simone Gastberger, organiser and host of the Scalaria.
