road accidents, Stalden, Valais

Thirteen people were injured when two coaches collided in Stalden in Upper Valais, SRF reported, citing the Valais cantonal police. One bus crossed into oncoming traffic, scraped the other coach and came to a stop near a barn.

The accident happened at about 8:45 a.m. near Mühlackern. The coach, which was carrying 31 people, was travelling from Stalden towards Visp when it moved into the opposite lane for reasons that remain unclear.

The driver of the oncoming coach swerved, and the two vehicles scraped against each other. The bus travelling towards Visp then left the road. Thirteen passengers were injured and taken to hospitals in Visp and Sion after receiving initial treatment. The other passengers were assisted at the scene, while nobody in the oncoming coach was injured.

The damaged coach is due to be recovered from 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The cantonal road will be closed completely during the operation. Traffic will be diverted in one direction at a time via Alte Strasse, while no diversion is available for heavy vehicles.
