Brauerei Egg has applied to expand its production facility in Egg in the Bregenzerwald by adding five storage tanks, ORF reported.

The tanks are planned for the company’s existing property. The project requires approval under commercial, building and nature conservation regulations from the Bregenz district authority.

Brauerei Egg is the smallest brewery in Vorarlberg and the last privately owned brewery in the Bregenzerwald. Founded in 1894, it produces beer and soft drinks.

The company says it produces about 27,000 hectolitres annually, including 20,000 hectolitres of beer and 7,000 hectolitres of soft drinks. Most of its sales are generated in the Bregenzerwald, with further sales elsewhere in Vorarlberg.

While larger Vorarlberg breweries have reported declining sales this summer, sales at the Egg brewery have increased. Managing director Lukas Dorner said beer sales were up 15 percent this summer.

Pachole, managing director of Dornbirn-based Mohrenbrauerei, told ORF in early August that small regional markets can respond quickly to changes. Mohrenbrauerei has partly attributed this summer’s decline in sales to the heat.
