An 82-year-old farmer suffered life-threatening injuries after getting caught in a rotary tedder during agricultural work in St. Lambrecht in the Murau district on Thursday afternoon, ORF reported. He was flown to the UKH hospital in Klagenfurt.

The farmer was using a tractor for haymaking at about 5.30 p.m. when parts of a pasture fence apparently became tangled in the rotary tedder.

He stopped the machine and tried to remove the fence. During the attempt, he became caught in the implement and was seriously injured.

His 26-year-old grandson, who was present and wanted to help, alerted emergency services. The injured man was taken to hospital by helicopter.
